Reading engine fault codes and anti-lock brake system diagnostics requires a special piece of equipment known as an ABS scan tool. This tool reads the on-board software system of the vehicle in order to assess the reason behind the activation of an ABS warning light.

A majority of new vehicles on the market today come with an Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), which is a safety system that retains the required traction of a vehicle with the road when brakes are applied, preventing the wheels from locking up.  Sometimes when this system is compromised, ABS warning lights are activated.

The vehicle problem denoted by an ABS warning light may vary from a simple fault, which can be easily fixed, to complicated ones, which require help from a service center or automobile mechanic shop.

There are many models of scan tools available in the market that  can be used for reading and diagnosing DTC codes of OBD ii, CAN and ABS compliant vehicles. In this article, we go through some highly reviewed ABS scan tool kits to help you find the perfect one for your vehicle.

    1. Hi Ian, there are few obd1 tools in the market right now but you still find some obd2 that works with obd1 vehicles but it is difficult to be precise about the models they work with.
I researched and I found 2 scan tool brands that I think will help. You will find more information from the links.
      1) This is an affordable obd1 code reader from a reputable brand cost less than 20 bucks click the link http://amzn.to/2dadhX3

      2) This one is a bit pricey from the same company as the first almost 150 bucks and it’s a loaded obd2 and obd1 scan tool. Here is the link http://amzn.to/2cCk0nj

Please do your due diligence before you buy as I have not done any in-depth review on any of them.
Let me know if you found any that helped or any thing you think I can help you with.

      Thanks
